Colin Cowherd is at times bombastic and at times he say things that he can’t really back up. At times though he does say interesting and at times provocative things.
That’s the case in this video where
he introduces an interesting argument: that Cooper Flagg is better than Luka Doncic.
Doncic of course was controversially traded by Dallas to L.A. last season when Dallas grew frustrated by Doncic’s perceived lack of conditioning.
They took a lot of heat for that and then got lucky in the draft, getting the #1 pick that brought them Flagg.
He’s made a quick impression as you’ll see in this video. It’s still preseason but Flagg has really changed the way Dallas plays. Where Doncic sort of slowed things down overall, Flagg has sped things up and Dallas has some guys who can run. Flagg can get them the ball or take it himself.
As Dallas coach Jason Kidd puts it here, “you can’t coach what he has. He just sees the floor differently. It’s special.”
To be clear, most of this video says that Flagg is better now than Luka was at the same age, but it also leaves open the possibly that he might be better than Doncic is today.
He won’t have the same freakish offensive game, but Flagg has an overall two-way game that Doncic has never had.
It’s still the pre-season but we’ll see these guys head-to-head Wednesday night as the Mavericks and the Lakers tangle for the first time this season and in Big D too. To his credit, Doncic has gotten himself in the best shape of his life and he is a legitimate Hall of Fame player. Flagg will have his hands full and will learn a lot.
Stay tuned.
