Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops declined to provide an update Monday on running back Jamarion Wilcox, who was suspended for Saturday’s season-opening win over Toledo.
“Yeah, I don’t have anything. His status has not changed,” Stoops said during his weekly press conference. “So, I really cannot comment on that anymore.”
Following the Wildcats’ 24-16 victory over the Rockets, Stoops initially addressed Wilcox’s absence, citing a violation of team rules.
“Yeah, Jamarion was out today. I’ll update
you this week, but a violation of team rules,” Stoops said postgame. “I’ll give you more information when I can.”
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Wilcox has a hearing scheduled for Wednesday regarding a domestic and interpersonal violence allegation, according to court records.
Wilcox, a redshirt sophomore, was Kentucky’s leading rusher last season. He carried the ball 92 times for 590 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching seven passes for 24 yards. His production played a key role in helping stabilize Kentucky’s ground game in 2024.
Despite his suspension, Kentucky’s running backs delivered a strong performance in the opener. The Wildcats rushed for 220 of their 305 total yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Dante Dowdell led the way with 129 yards and a touchdown, while Seth McGowan added 78 yards and another score.
As the Wildcats prepare for Ole Miss this week, Wilcox’s status remains uncertain, leaving questions about when, or if, he’ll return to the field.
