Nate Diaz and Mike Perry are returning to MMA.
Most Valuable promotions announced that Diaz and Perry are set for a five-round welterweight contest at the Rousey vs. Carano event on May 16 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The bout will serve as the third piece of a triple-headliner — which also includes Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano and Francis Ngannou vs. Felipe Lins.
“Glad to be back in action. It’s time,” Diaz said in a press release. “Don’t forget where this all came from. I got plans on doing a lot
more in the next 10 years, no matter where it is. Time to set the bar again, so get ready for a new takeover again and again until the end of time.”
”The King of Violence returns to MMA to elbow his opponent in the f*cking face,” Perry said. “Saturday, May 16th, on Netflix, Nate Diaz is going lights out.”
Diaz hasn’t competed in mixed martial arts since he submitted Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279 in September 2022. The bout served as the final one on his UFC deal, and hasn’t fought for the promotion since. Diaz went on to compete in a pair of boxing matches, winning a decision against Jorge Masvidal, and dropping one to Jake Paul.
Perry has been out of the MMA side of things even longer, last competing in the octagon in an April 2021 decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez. “Platinum” has gone on to become the face of BKFC, and has 6-0 in the company, and is the reigning King of Violence champion.
MVP is trying to make an impact on the mixed martial arts world, and feel the addition of this bout is doing exactly that.
“MVP delivered the most-viewed boxing event since the advent of cable, and now we’re set to break records again with the biggest viewership in MMA history with the addition of Diaz vs. Perry to Rousey vs Carano and Ngannou vs Lins,” MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said.
“Nate Diaz is the Real BMF, and Mike Perry is the King of Violence – this will be a war from the first press conference all the way to the end when one of them has their hand raised. It’s an absolutely massive night of fights in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 16th, as we continue building some of the biggest global events in combat sports. Thank you to Netflix for believing in our vision. The future of MMA is bright.”
