After a memorable regular season, four Brewers players were recognized with Milwaukee BBWAA awards this Friday. The awards, selected by a panel from the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association,
included Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Pitcher, Top Newcomer, Unsung Hero, and the Good Guy Award.
Most Valuable Player
Second baseman Brice Turang’s name continues to pop up this award season, here earning another well-deserved honor. As the Brewers’ most valuable player, Turang slashed .288/.359/.435. While his defensive metrics weren’t as superb this year, he was still one of the most well-rounded, versatile players in the sport. His tallies included 18 home runs and 24 stolen bases, nearly notching his first career 20-20 season, an impressive 97 runs scored, and 81 RBIs.
Most Valuable Pitcher
For all the pitching success stories the Brewers churn out each year, it’s still Freddy Peralta leading the charge. This 2025 season was a career-year for him in many ways, including a personal best 176 2/3 innings pitched and a 2.70 ERA. His marks compared across the league are just as noteworthy. His 2.70 ERA (7th), 10.39 K/9 (6th), and 1.08 WHIP (13th) place him among the best of this year’s qualified pitchers.
Top Newcomer
Quinn Priester had a rough first month with Milwaukee, posting a 5.79 ERA in his first five games. Yet after that, he was nearly untouchable. The rest of the way, he compiled a 2.89 ERA to finish with a 3.32 mark. Not only did Priester display an incredible run-prevention ability, but he took a huge leap forward in his strikeout and home run numbers. He increased his K/9 from 5.98 to 7.55 and dropped his HR/FB from 17.1% to 13.7%. Priester might have been valuable simply for his ability to cover 157 1/3 innings, but in the process, he made himself an integral part of the Brewers’ success this year.
Unsung Hero
Aaron Ashby’s numbers certainly deserve more praise this season. After pitching to a 2.16 ERA over 66 2/3 innings, he clearly became a keystone in the Brewers’ bullpen after bouncing back from a shortened 2024 campaign. With 76 strikeouts and just three home runs over this season, Ashby regularly showed the ability to dominate hitters. He only gave up multiple runs in three of his 43 appearances.
The Good Guy Award
Not only did Yelich post a .795 OPS, he also earned this year’s Good Guy Award. This recognition goes to players with an “outgoing, friendly presence in the clubhouse” and with the media. It’s the second time in Yelich’s career he’s earned this award, also winning it in 2023.
