Last summer, Chelsea FC was desperately trying to unload striker Nicolas Jackson and it would not be successful with that task until the final hours of the summer transfer window when Bayern Munich took in the Senegal striker on a loan.
In sending Jackson away, though, Chelsea could have hurt Cole Palmer per ex-Chelsea star Florent Malouda. Palmer, of course, was omitted from the English national team by former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel, who now leads the Three Lions.
“Cole Palmer might be missing Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea. Obviously with Joao Pedro, they also have a good connection. We saw it when João Pedro first arrived. I believe that he needs to express his talent to have a good link-up with the number nine. He needs to be able to dictate the play and to have a kind of target player to allow him to arrive in the box at the right time,” Malouda told Snabbare. “It’s very dependent on that because all the opponents now are able to build a system to manage the way he is a threat to them and that’s the challenge for him. That’s the next step. I hope he will be able to fix that problem, to maybe bring some variation in his game, maybe with some free-kicks, or another way to score or impact the game, so he can get more freedom up front.”
It seems like a big stretch to think that Palmer not making the English national team was because Jackson was loaned away, but sometimes subtle changes in a team’s lineup or composition can have adverse effects.
