The Michigan Wolverines acquired the commitment of former Tennessee center J.P. Estrella on Thursday afternoon, and it appears they may not be done this week getting guys through the transfer portal.
On Friday morning, Rivals’ Jamie Shaw ($) place a prediction for the Wolverines to land the commitment of Wake Forest guard/forward Juke Harris, the No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal. Here’s what Shaw had to say when placing his prediction.
“Juke Harris is currently Rivals’ No. 1 overall player
in the transfer portal. He is scheduled to visit Michigan this weekend. I am being told Harris is a high-priority recruit for Dusty May and to watch this visit closely. While I am told the recruitment is not done, and some boxes still need to be checked on the visit, I have placed an RPM for the Wolverines to ultimately land Harris.”
Harris — the ACC Most Improved Player and Second-Team All-ACC player this season — had a breakout year by averaging 21.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The 6-foot-7, 200-pounder also shot 44.4 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from beyond the arc. That was a huge jump in production from his first year in college when he only averaged 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
Should Harris commit to the Wolverines, he would be a shoo-in replacement for departing Big Ten Player of the Year and first-team All-American Yaxel Lendeborg. Harris isn’t as big as Lendeborg, but he is an athletic player that can guard multiple positions. He’s also versatile offensively considering he is able to hit three-point shots and drive to the rim to convert easy buckets.
All in all, this would be a fantastic addition. And while the prediction is exciting news, Michigan will have to seal the deal and check “some boxes” as Shaw wrote (AKA: his NIL contract, among other things). But should all go well this weekend, it would not be a surprise to see Harris announce a decision in the near future.
