The fallout from Germany’s elimination at the 2026 World Cup is getting serious. Julian Nagelsmann, the coach of the national team, declared that he would not leave his post and see out his contract, but rumors of his sack and posisble replacement are now swirling. We’ve already published a report about Nagelsmann on the verge of the sack, but here’s another report from Süddeutsche Zeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
A source from the DFB told @SZ that Julian Nagelsmann ‘no longer has a chance’
to stay. The only remaining details are financial. Nagelsmann has two years left on his contract with an annual salary of around €7m/year. So he’s due a severance pay, likely in the seven-figure range. The DFB would have liked to see the ‘Dutch example’ of Ronald Koeman, who gracefully resigned after the Netherlands’ elimination
Once hailed as one of the brightest young managers in Europe, Nagelsmann’s stock has crashed down starting from his unceremonious sacking from Bayern Munich (which in retrospect turned out to be the right decision in the long run). Germany also lost credibility with questionable performances in the last eight years.
