One of my biggest fears this week, in what is likely to be a very wet MetLife Stadium, is that Jordan Love is the unfortunate quarterback to end the New York Jets’ interception-less streak. This streak dates back to January 5th of 2025 when current 49er Ashtyn Davis picked off former Pro Bowl quarterback Snoop Huntley in the second quarter of the Jets’ 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Jets then went through the entire 2025 season without recording a single interception and failed to get one
against Cam Ward in Week 1.
It’s an unprecedented streak in the modern NFL, and it’s also likely to come to an end shortly because, while the Jets were bad last year and are likely still pretty bad this year, they were also colossally unlucky. Over the long haul, about 20% of all passes defended become interceptions. Last season the Jets had a perfectly respectable number of passes defended at 67, ranking 20th overall and tied with the New England Patriots. Unlike the New England Patriots, who picked off 10 of those passes, the Jets had zero.
The Jets also recovered just three fumbles on defense for the season (and forced only eight) meaning that only 1.7% of opposing offensive drives resulted in a turnover in 2025, which is the lowest mark in the NFL since at least 1993. The Jets did manage three sacks in their game against the Titans last Sunday, a number that they only achieved three times in 17 games last season, and perhaps a more consistent pass rush will create more opportunities as well.
The weather is supposed to be sloppy on Sunday in New Jersey, and poor weather often brings chaos with it. The Green Bay Packers have a lot of weapons, but with their interior line struggling and no running back talent to speak of, they basically must pass to move the ball. Passing in poor weather can lead to all sorts of bad outcomes. Let’s hope regression to the mean decides to hold off for one more week.
