The 2025 MLB season is winding down and the Yankees are in prime position to make the playoffs for the eighth time in nine years. So with the magic number at eight, it’s no surprise to see some fans looking ahead to postseason roster construction. The Blue Jays’ four-game
AL East lead with minimal time remaining means that the Yankees are most likely consigned to a first-round Wild Card Series (and the Red Sox look like the most probable foe). It’s possible that all three potential games could be at Yankee Stadium, but if New York slips, then it could be an all-road matchup.
There will be plenty of time to debate the finer points as we get closer to October, but here on September 15th, if you had to pick a starter to slot into a Game 3 behind Max Fried and Carlos Rodón, who would it be? The best-of-three Wild Card Series means that we might not actually see a third starter if things go south, but it’s obviously worth thinking about regardless. A trio of young pitchers sit at Aaron Boone’s disposal: 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil, second-half standout rookie Cam Schlittler, and rookie strikeout leader Will Warren. An opener is also a possibility.
So who would you choose? Vote in the poll below and we’ll check out the results later in the week. (And hey, the best-case scenario has the Yankees using two of these guys due to a fourth starter required deeper in October so let’s hope we’re considering a similar question sometime soon.)
