Jürgen Klopp’s appointment as Germany manager until 2030 was exactly what the country needed following another World Cup debacle in the 2026 edition. Germany fans have been burned time and time again, but the appointment of the legendary former Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager has still given them a measure of hope that, finally, things are trending up again.
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer expressed the same kind of cautious optimism. Ambushed by Bild reporters at a basketball
event, the former Adidas CEO believes Klopp can give Germany the kind of soft reboot it needs.
“I think it’s a good solution. If you look at the performance of the German national team, we haven’t performed as we had hoped in the last three World Cups. We were more or less eliminated in the group stage every time,” Hainer continued grimly, as captured by Bild’s website.
“What’s needed now is motivation, a sense of new beginnings. We have good footballers, everything needs to be organized. I believe that Jürgen Klopp is absolutely the right person for the job. He has had tremendous success at all the clubs he has worked at – Mainz, Dortmund, Liverpool – and has created a sense of new beginnings.
He’s won over the fans, the players, and the whole club. I think that’s good for the DFB too. He’s a people person on all levels; he can win people over, win them over to his ideas, and inspire the team so much that they give more than 100 percent on the pitch.”
Whether Klopp’s time out of the game with Red Bull will negatively affect him or if he has the energy left to recreate his old, magnanimous style remains to be seen. But, at the moment, it is hard to see a candidate better suited to bringing Germany back to the top of football, where it belongs.
