Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães is reportedly set to travel to the club’s training camp in Spain, but not precisely to resume preparations for the new season.
In fact, according to the latest reports, Bruno is planning the opposite and to formally request a transfer so Arsenal can finally complete a deal in a saga lasting the whole summer.
The Magpies midfielder didn’t fly to La Manga on Sunday, as Newcastle insiders were reporting for days, with negotiations with Arsenal advancing quickly
enough.
On Monday morning, The Sun is reporting that Guimarães will actually fly to Spain to meet new head coach Matthias Jaissle and sporting director Ross Wilson to personally inform the club he wants to leave and put an end to all this.
According to The Sun, Arsenal is preparing an offer worth more than £75 million as talks over a transfer continue. Newcastle is still said to be waiting for a formal approach from the Premier League champion, despite growing confidence from Arsenal that a deal can be completed.
“Toon’s Brazilian skipper, 28, was due to meet new boss Matthias Jaissle to outline his desire to quit the Magpies,” The Sun reported. “He will inform them of his wish to leave after four years at St James’ Park and sign for Mikel Arteta’s Premier League champions.”
If the meeting takes place as reported, it would mark Jaissle’s first major challenge since succeeding Eddie Howe, not only losing Bruno but having to hear from him and his wish to exit Tyneside in person.
The German coach only arrived at Newcastle’s La Manga training base over the weekend and is expected to spend the coming days outlining his plans to the squad before preseason friendlies against Valencia and Everton, with his official appointment expected to be announced through Monday.
