Odell Beckham Jr. was instrumental to the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl run in 2021. Several seasons later, OBJ is no longer considered a top threat and is coming off a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Despite that, he could be a valuable asset to a contender, so is it time for the former Pro Bowler to consider a reunion with L.A.?
Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports considered OBJ to the Rams as his “favorite potential landing spot”:
“Beckham helped Matthew Stafford
and Co. win Super Bowl LVI with his contributions late in the regular season and in the playoffs that year, and he could do the same in 2025. The Rams’ passing game is headlined by the talented duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but with Tutu Atwell on injured reserve and Xavier Smith currently in the concussion protocol, the door could be open for OBJ to return for another Super Bowl run.”
Beckham played in just eight games in ‘21 after being cut by the Browns, yet again, his signing was essentially the final piece of L.A.’s Super Bowl puzzle.
The LSU product caught 27 passes for 305 yards and 5 touchdowns in seven regular season starts, before tacking on 21 receptions for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 targets in the playoffs. Los Angeles likely would not have won the big game had Beckham not caught a 17-yard dart from Matthew Stafford early in the game.
History has a chance to repeat itself this season if Beckham elects to make another run at a ring in Hollywood. With the Rams aiming to maximize what’s left of Stafford’s career, why shouldn’t OBJ choose to go to a place where he had outstanding short-term success? I’m sure the team would welcome him back with open arms ahead of a potential deep playoff run.
