The Buffalo Bills are getting ready to host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday for a classic AFL matchup that should feature plenty of fireworks by quarterbacks Josh Allen and Justin Herbert. Both teams are dealing with injuries to key offensive starters, but Los Angeles that may have the hardest path to carve out to earn the team’s first win of the season due to a shortage of pass catchers.
On Monday afternoon, ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Chargers are placing tight ends
David Njoku (fibula) and Charlie Kolar (forearm) on Injured Reserve. With each missing at least next four games, that leaves Los Angeles with only tight end Oronde Gadsden II on the team’s active roster. The son of former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Oronde Gadsden, the younger Gadsden attended Syracuse University from 2021 through 2024.
It’s likely the Chargers make roster moves to reinforce the tight end position, but it would appear that Gadsden is in line for featured snaps at tight end. Patrick Herbert (brother to Justin) is currently on Los Angeles’ practice squad, and seems to be a likely candidate to be called up in Week 3.
Bills reporter Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 also reports that the Chargers are likely to “be without starting LG Kayode Awosika and starting DT Dalvin Tomlinson”following comments head coach Jim Harbaugh shared with the media saying “both will miss some time.” Los Angeles has also seen wide receiver Ladd McConkey miss time to start the season thanks to a ribs injury, but he was able to return for the team’s Week 2 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Buffalo will monitor wide receiver DJ Moore this week to see how the AC joint sprain he suffered in Week 2 responds ahead of Sunday’s game. Additionally, the Bills are also managing a hip injury with defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
