Nico Schlotterbeck has made his long-awaited return for Borussia Dortmund, giving BVB a major boost for its Bundesliga clash with SC Paderborn. The 26-year-old defender has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury during Germany’s World Cup match against Côte d’Ivoire on June 20th. After returning to team training this week, Schlotterbeck has been declared fit and available by head coach Niko Kovač.
Schlotterbeck’s return is particularly important given his status as one of Dortmund’s defensive
leaders and vice-captain. He made 28 Bundesliga appearances last season as BVB finished second, and his presence should provide additional quality and stability at the back. Meanwhile, former Bayern Munich prospect Noël Aséko Nkili made his debut for Eintracht Frankfurt today, marking an important step in the former Bayern Munich midfielder’s career. The 20-year-old joined Frankfurt this summer after spending the previous season developing with Hannover 96, where he became an important player in the 2. Bundesliga.
Aséko Nkili arrives with plenty of potential in defensive midfield and will now look to establish himself at the Bundesliga level. For Bayern Munich fans, his progress will be worth watching closely after the club’s decision to move him on this summer.
