Another blow to the linebacker depth as it is being reported that special teams ace Jake Hansen was carted off the field during Day Two of Houston Texans Training Camp.
A potential foot or lower-leg injury could sideline fourth-year linebacker Jake Hansen for the entire season, adding to the growing concerns in an already thin Texans linebacker corps. Hansen has earned a spot on each of the Texans’ past four rosters thanks to his deep knowledge
of the defense and his value on special teams. He finished last season on injured reserve with a chest injury but entered this year fully recovered. Over four seasons in Houston, Hansen has recorded 84 tackles, primarily while contributing on special teams, and has made four career starts on defense. The former undrafted free agent out of Illinois has become a respected locker room presence and an unsung contributor during DeMeco Ryans’ tenure.
He was in line to compete for a backup LB role on a defense in need of a player to step up after E.J. Speed was lost for the season due to a quad injury suffered while working out at the Texans’ facility. Even with all of the added depth this offseason, Hansel was slated to earn a spot on the 53-man roster on the latest Rosterology. Depending on the severity of the injury, that will place more pressure on rookies Wade Woodaz and Aiden Fisher to step up and contribute immediately.
