The story of this season thus far for the Kentucky Wildcats has been the health of point guard Jaland Lowe.
After injuring his right shoulder in the blue-white game, Lowe made his return to the court for
the Valpo and Louisville games. Performing well in both, it seemed like things were looking up for the junior guard.
Then, the bad news came on Thursday when Lowe re-injured the same shoulder at practice. And that left Lowe’s teammates distraught that their leader could be out for an extended period of time.
“I honestly am not really an emotional guy, but I really…I’m really sad, honestly,” Andrija Jelavic said after Friday night’s win. “I got goosebumps when he yelled for (Brandon) Wells, our doctor. When I heard it was the same shoulder, I was really sad for him. He’s a really good human being outside of the court. Very good player on the court, and I know how much this means to him. I know how much he hates this, and although he’s not showing it, I know how upset he is.”
Jelavic did say he’s hopeful that Lowe will return this season.
“We shouldn’t make a big deal out of it. He’ll be back sooner than later,” Jelavic said of Lowe.
Kam Williams also offered a similar sentiment surrounding Lowe’s injury.
“It was tough, because no one wants to see their point guard go out like that,” Williams said. “I don’t really know the significance of the injury or not, so I can’t really speak on that, but we’re just gonna pray for the best.”
Now, the main question surrounding the situation is how long will Lowe be out? That still seems to be up in the air, as season-ending surgery is reportedly on the table.
Let’s hope we get to see him take the floor again this season.
