The first Juventus player to get a contract extension during the 2026-27 season is not somebody we thought would be in this position so soon after looking like he was on the way out just a couple of months ago.
Instead, Nico González has had quite the redemption arc so far in his return to Truin.
On Friday, Juventus announced that they have signed the 28-year-old González to a new contract that will run through 2030. That replaces the contract that he was under that ran through 2029 just until a couple
of days ago. González is expected to receive a with this new contract, and the announcement comes all of a day after multiple sources in the Italian media reported that Juve and González’s camp had reached a verbal agreement on a deal and that the actual contract extension would be announced the coming weeks.
Maybe we should have thought it would be in the coming hours instead considering that’s what actually happened.
The official announcement via Juventus’ website is as follows:
Nico Gonzalez has signed a new contract! The Argentine and Juventus have come to an agreement on a new deal that will run until June 30, 2030.
The new contract confirms the desire to build on the journey that began in the summer of 2024 when Nico first arrived in Turin. Since then, the 28-year-old has made a total of 45 appearances and scored seven goals for Juventus, making a significant contribution at the start of this season too, with two goals from five appearances so far.
His playing style brings unpredictability and tactical options to the forward line as the Bianconeri face a busy season, combined with the experience and character that make him a valuable figurehead for the squad, both on and off the pitch.
Congratulations, Nico!
Here is the short quote that González put out on Instagram following the announcement of his new contract:
“I’m very happy to continue being part of this great family. Since I arrived, I’ve felt very comfortable both at the club and in the city, and I’m very excited about everything we have in store. Juventus is an institution with a great history and great goals to achieve. It’s a source of pride to continue being part of this project and with great enthusiasm to continue working to achieve great things together.”
González has been one of the biggest surprises under Luciano Spalletti so far this season simply because he wasn’t really expected to still be around coming out of the World Cup. Whether it was at Atlético Madrid or somewhere else, González’s future looked away from Turin for much of the summer … until that all changed and Juve chose to keep him around.
It has proven to be a wise choice will of the injuries in multiple attacking positions — and Spalletti is clearly a fan of has versatility and energy that he brings to the field. It helps that he’s also already scored in Serie A and the Europa League this season. And that form is what has contributed to such a strong start — which we only hope can continue now that the games are about to begin again.
