Could the Portland Trail Blazers take a major swing in the trade market this summer for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown? Portland, at least, has some interest in dealing for the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
In a Monday article (subscription required), Stein reported intel on Boston’s chances of winning the Giannis Antetokounmpo Sweepstakes. While Antetokounmpo is preferential to Boston as one of his landing spots, Stein said the Celtics’ interest in him remains
a question. If the Celtics did deal for Giannis, it’d almost certainly require Boston to give up Brown in a trade involving three teams or more, Stein said.
On that subject, Stein reported murmurs point to the Trail Blazers as one of the candidates who could jump into the trade to acquire Brown.
There is a belief in some corners of the league that Atlanta, Houston and Portland all have legitimate trade interest in Brown.
Which is something to file away if you’re looking for participants that might be interested in joining an eventual multi-team Antetokounmpo trade construction.
Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam said in early May he wants Antetokounmpo’s future with the franchise settled before the NBA Draft on June 23-24. So answers to the Giannis Sweepstakes and Portland’s possible involvement should be on their way in the coming weeks.
Esteemed readers of Blazer’s Edge, what do you think about a possible trade for Jaylen Brown? And what price are you willing to pay to acquire his services?
