Gaizka Mendieta has shared his thoughts on Barcelona star Pedri and why he’s struggled to find his best form at World Cup 2026 with Spain.
The midfielder has lost his place in the starting XI and looks set to stay on the bench for Sunday’s final against Argentina.
Mendieta thinks that Pedri is still Barcelona’s best midfielder but feels the 23-year-old needs to manage his workload better.
Speaking to football betting site BetVictor he said: “Pedri is still the best. He may not have looked as fresh as he should
be for this World Cup, but he plays many games. People often forget he is one of the players with the most recoveries and covers the most distance in La Liga. He needs to learn how to maximize his efforts.
“Sometimes he runs too much for a midfielder of his profile. He is the reference point, not only for young Spanish players and Barcelona but also for the Spain national team. Even if he has been on the bench recently, it is just a matter of rest and understanding.
“He needs to manage those efforts, and perhaps Barcelona can help him with that.”
