The New England Patriots will be down two in the defensive backfield against the New York Jets.
Cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Karon Prunty have been ruled out for Sunday’s AFC East matchup, as head coach Mike Vrabel announced during his final press conference of the week. Neck and hamstring injuries, respectively, will keep both sidelined for the second game in a row.
But Christian Gonzalez will make his October return to the depth chart after missing back-to-back starts with a shoulder injury.
The All-Pro recently ramped up to full participation and will go without a game designation, while questionable calls await for the likes of running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver A.J. Brown as well as offensive tackles Will Campbell and Marcus Bryant.
Here’s the final injury report ahead of the 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium.
OUT
Patriots
- CB Carlton Davis III (neck)
- CB Karon Prunty (hamstring)
Jets
- RB Breece Hall (quad)
- WR Adonai Mitchell (finger)
- G Dylan Parham (knee)
- DE Joseph Ossai (ankle)
The Patriots concluded divisional prep inside the WIN Waste Innovations Field House on a rainy Friday, and with defensive tackle Cory Durden’s return from an illness leaving two absences.
Davis had been downgraded entering the second game of the regular season due to a neck issue. The veteran starter went on to be inactive versus the Las Vegas Raiders after playing all 59 defensive snaps the weekend prior against the Buffalo Bills. As for Prunty, the fifth-round draft choice by way of Kansas, North Carolina A&T and Wake Forest has seen 46 snaps on special teams during his rookie campaign. The corners have been non-participants for six consecutive practices.
Four Jets have also been ruled out ahead of the matinee in Foxborough, including a running back coming off three straight seasons north of 1,300 scrimmage yards.

The initial pair of picks in the 2025 Patriots draft class stand among seven questionable. Campbell and Henderson had been downgraded to out during what became a 45-17 rout last weekend. The previous No. 4 overall pick out of LSU and the previous No. 38 overall pick out of Ohio State have been listed as a partial go at practice since then. The knee injury at left tackle sent rookie Caleb Lomu in. The high ankle sprain in the backfield, meanwhile, sent Corey Kiner in as the change of pace behind leading rusher Rhamondre Stevenson.
It also remains to be seen whether the open spot on New England’s 53-man roster will find a suitor before Saturday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline for moves. The light will be left on until then.
The Patriots’ wide receiver room has had its June trade acquisition back as a limited participant for three straight sessions. The 21-day activation window for Brown opened after spending the past four games on injured reserve due to a high ankle sprain. The organization also had Bryant on the field this week after the sophomore swing tackle had been designated to return from injured reserve during NFL cutdowns in August.
