The Kentucky Wildcats fought hard in Gainesville, but came up short against a Florida Gators team that is peaking at the right time. They also did themselves no favors in the O-Dome today as turnovers and missed layups plagued the Cats once again.
How bad was it? Well, let’s first start with turnovers.
To start the game, Kentucky really struggled with the early pressure applied by Florida. Not so much on the defensive end of the court, but just from the pure offensive onslaught the Gators started the game with.
Then, as the game went on, they settled in.
Totalling 14 turnovers on the day, the difference in this game comes from the next stat bundled with this. Points off turnovers. The Gators turned those 14 turnovers into 25 points. The first dagger of the game.
The second dagger of the game once again came at the rim. This Kentucky team has struggled mightily when it comes to finishing at the rim this season. That continued today in Gainesville, as they missed several key opportunities to keep applying pressure to Florida and finished a mere 8/23 on layups.
Just can’t happen in big games if you want to win.
Now, Mark Pope and his staff are going to have to make some key adjustments with two very important games this week. Can the Cats bounce back from this tough loss in Gainesville?
We will find out against a good Georgia team on Tuesday night.
