During the 26 World Cup many football fans got a chance to see the generational talent 17 year-old Gilberto Mora for the first time and even though such players as Yann Diomande were attracting the attention of the spotlight Mora’s potential wasn’t lost on everyone.
As with any footballing rising star there are usually rumours linking many of the big clubs across the globe and Liverpool being one of them. Over recent years Liverpool supporters have been emotionally dragged through the process of the club’s
pursuit of their number one target and more often than not it ended with the player moving to a different club. The exceptions have been over the past two summers with Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Bradley Barcola (after the Diomande saga) and this writer would add Jeremy Jacquet to the list but that was a well conducted transfer due to catching the other chasing clubs off guard.
Since the World Cup Mora has been a starter for his club Tijauna as an attacking midfielder who has already scored five goals and got one assist in the first seven games of the season. Obviously some people may question the quality of the Mexican league compared to the Premier league but that shouldn’t dilute what a remarkable achievement those numbers are for a 17 year-old.
Gilberto Mora became the youngest player at 17 years and 240 days to represent Mexico in a World Cup who made an appearance in the opening game against South Africa and later on was a starter when England played them in the round of 16. Interestingly Mora turns 18 in October so would be available for transfer in the January transfer window and if Liverpool did actually make a bid this writer imagines that Mora would be allowed to stay with Tijuana until the end of the 26/27 season to sweeten the deal.
It’s probably realistic to note that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona will be keeping a close eye on the Mexican generational talent along with a host of other big clubs but maybe not Man City unless they arrogantly carry on as if innocent and the FA don’t start handing them various punishments.
Fabrizio Romano, one of the most listened to transfer gurus, had a few words to share on the topic of Giberto Mora.
“This boy is special. This midfielder is special. 17 years old, born October 2008 and Gilberto Mora is considered in the industry as one of the best talents around in midfield.”
“So there is a lot of attention from European top clubs. I’m sure in the near future there will be conversations with his camp because these clubs have already started working around Gilberto Mora to understand the price, to understand the possibility to bring him to Europe in the near future.”
That’s not exactly breaking news from Romano but this is the void of an international break so words need to be spoken and pages need to be filled until the real footballing business of the domestic leagues starts up again next weekend (oh hello Man City.) Even though it’s just rumours it’s nice to think that scouting and planning is alive and well at Liverpool with an eye on continuing to build an exciting group of young players who should make the transitioning of the senior squad a lot smoother in the future.
