Former third-round pick Jalin Hyatt, cut on Sunday when the team reached the 53-man roster limit, will return to the New York Giants as part of their practice squad.
The Giants traded up in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Hyatt after he won the Fred Belitnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver as a member of the Tennessee Volunteers.
Hyatt’s time with the Giants has been a disappointment. In three seasons, he has just 36 receptions for 470 yards and no touchdowns. Hyatt has barely played the past
two seasons, catching just 13 balls.
Hyatt suffered a leg injury during training camp in West Virginia when he was cut down by a defensive player. He has not practiced since that time.
The Giants cut four draft picks on Sunday — Hyatt, Evan Neal, Darius Muasau, and Eric Gray. They also traded offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu to the Kansas City Chiefs last week.
Thus far, Hyatt is the only one to be brought back. Muasau was claimed by the New England Patriots.
