Well, that would have been fun.
According to ESPN’s NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have been checking in around the league for tight end help, and even checked in on Cardinals star tight end Trey McBride. The Cardinals made it clear to the Broncos that they have zero intention of trading the face of their franchise, and the Broncos have turned their attention elsewhere.
Schefter and Rapoport added that the Broncos have checked in around the league for tight ends, including Cardinals star tight end Trey McBride, who is from Fort Morgan, Colorado, and played at Colorado State. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Cardinals made it known they have no intention of trading away the face of their franchise.
The Denver Broncos have checked in around the league on tight ends, going so far as to ambitiously — and some would say outrageously — check on Arizona Cardinals star Trey McBride, who is from Fort Morgan, Colorado, and played at Colorado State.
The Cardinals made it very clear they have zero intention of trading McBride, and Denver turned its attention elsewhere.
This has been a move many Broncos fans have been wanting them to make, and despite being in the basement of the NFC West once again, the Cardinals do not seem keen on the idea of trading away their star tight end. Still, it appears the Broncos are big fish hunting ahead of the trade deadline and would like to add a playmaker to their offense prior to the deadline this coming Tuesday.
As we know, they have been connected to Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor, but their level of interest seems to have lowered recently, with the New York Giants being the main interested team there. McBride would have been a huge and unexpected splash, so now we have to ask: what do GM George Paton and HC Sean Payton have cooking?
It’s clear they want to add a weapon to their offense and are willing to make a big splash if they can. The Colts are seeking a pricey package for Jonathan Taylor, and Trey McBride would have cost at least multiple 1st-round picks. So, what other running backs, tight ends, or, hell, even wide receivers are they looking to acquire?
One tight end to potentially keep an eye on is Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. The pass-catching tight end market is not very good, but Goedert does seem like a player who could be available. With that said, he was a free agent this past offseason, and the Broncos did not show much interest at all; he ended up re-signing with the Eagles on a one-year deal.
A move at running back or tight end would make sense for the Broncos. The emergence of Jonah Coleman helps the Broncos’ backfield, but they still need more. Veteran JK Dobbins has really taken a step back this season and has struggled badly. Also, second-year back RJ Harvey and reserve/third down specialist Tyler Badie are currently on the IR. So, you could make a case that they need to add some depth to their running back room, even with Jonah Coleman playing well. As for tight end, they have veteran tight end Evan Engram who simply isn’t really used. He gets snaps but isn’t really targeted and feels like an afterthought in the offense. Adam Trautman is your blocking specialist and reserve/blocking tight end Nate Adkins leads the team in touchdown receptions (3), but only has 6 total receptions on the year.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10th at 2 p.m. MT, and our Denver Broncos appear to be a team that will be very active ahead of the Deadline.
