The NFL is filled with players who are deeply committed to the communities in which they play, and the Eagles have a whole lot of guys like that on the roster. After their Week 1 game, QB Jalen Hurts and EDGE Jalyx Hunt both announced some hugely impactful initiatives for some high schoolers in Philly.
Jalen Hurts and his foundation announced a $600,000 donation to Northeast High School for a new HVAC system that will bring air conditioning into the often hot and uncomfortable conditions. Already
this year, 52 schools without AC have had to close early due to the temperatures — that number is down to 52 from 118 when Hurts first committed to this initiative a few years ago.
When speaking to the students about this six-figure donation, Hurts explained that education is so important, and the environment to do that important learning is critical to the work getting done. A comfortable space for students to learn is what every kid deserves.
The next day, across town, Jalyx Hunt and his foundation announced the creation of three scholarships and an endowment at Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. The scholarships are named after important women in Hunt’s life, his Mother, his Sister, his Grandmother, and his long-time friend. Two awards will cover two years of tuition, and two will cover four years, and the endowment will sustain the scholarships in the future.
“This is longevity,” Hunt said, according to the Inquirer’s Olivia Reiner. “I’ve had a lot of talks with [Little Flower president Kristie] Dugan, and I just know that this is something that helps out a lot. A lot of people at this school require and need some sort of help to pay tuition, and if I can do that, I would love to do that.”
Hunt has created a long-term connection with the students and staff at Little Flower HS back in 2024 when the Eagles defender wanted to support underfunded school sports teams. He helped the basketball team two years ago, and now he’s having an even bigger impact to a community he’s deeply committed to.
