Rutgers basketball has landed its first commit of the 2027 class: shooting guard RJ Moore, who has committed to play for the Scarlet Knights, according to 247Sports, which ranks him as a 4 Star recruit, along with Rivals.
Moore, who hails from Huntersville, South Carolina, and plays his high school ball at Ambassador Christian School, stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 190 pounds. During his junior season, he played in 22 games and averaged 18.6 points per game, 2.5 assists per game and 8 rebounds according
to his MaxPreps profile.
He is ranked as the No.60 recruit in the nation by 247Sports and the No. 40 recruit by Rivals for his class, making him the highest-rated commit for the Knights since Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. He chose Rutgers over prominent programs such as Alabama, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Virginia. He committed to the Knights while on an official visit and was supposed to visit the Commodores, Demon Deacons, and Crimson Tide later in the month, but with his commitment, it is expected that he will cancel those visits.
247 Sports’ Adam Finkelstein broke down his strengths as a recruit.
“Moore is a high-upside wing who combines shooting with positional size and movement skills,” said Finkelstein. “His niche is from behind the three-point line, and he has a natural stroke and soft ball. He’s capable of making deep threes, can side-step into tough ones, and has clear gravity spacing the floor.”
With his commitment and the new five-year eligibility rules, Rutgers is projected to have three more open scholarship spots for the 2027 season before the transfer portal comes into play.
