There will be a new plaque delivered to Seattle Seahawks superstar and Offensive Player of the Year winner Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
As shared on Monday, JSN’s NFL Honors award for OPOY had a bit of a problem. It looks like he’s won Defensive Player of the Year, which would’ve been amazing in an alternate universe.
The league has responded and apologized, but with a twist. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told The Athletic on Tuesday that it wasn’t a “Defensive” error, but a misspelling of “Offensive” as “Oefensive,”
which actually seems plausible when looking at the “Of” on the plaque. Or maybe he’s the Defensive Player Df the Year. Either way, it’s wrong.
“The league made the mistake. We sincerely apologize to Jaxon for the error and are in the process of creating and shipping him a new trophy,” McCarthy said. “Of course, like the teams he played against this year, we know how great an offensive player he is. We just had a problem spelling it.”
We’ll keep tabs on whether or not the new trophy JSN gets is 100 percent accurate. Maybe it should also come with an apology letter from Druski.
