Agit Kabayel hadn’t fought in his home country of Germany in nearly three years, but he provided his friends and family with a nice showing earlier today (Sat., Jan. 10, 2025) by stopping Damian Knyba in round three of their heavyweight title fight in Rudolf Weber-Arena, Oberhausen, Germany.
Kabayel wasn’t exactly in control from the jump, as Knyba found success early with his strong jab and combinations. But in the third round, Kabayal started tenderizing Knyba with precise shots. Once he started to
find his range Kabayal didn’t let off the gas, ultimately forcing s stoppage with 30 seconds left in the third round.
The stoppage was a bit questionable as it seemed Knyba still had his wits about him when the fight was stopped. In that instance, it would have been better if the referee gave Knyba a bit more time to show he was able to continue. Nevertheless, he is the third man in the ring and the one that makes that call and does have a closer and better view of what’s actually happening.
Check out some of the highlights:
For Kabayel, the win moves him to 27-0 and gives him his sixth straight stoppage win, nineteenth overall, giving him the right to call for a big tittle fight against Oleksandr Usyk. If you recall, the German-born slugger was coming off a speculator knockout win over Zhilei Zhang earlier this year (see it again here), so he is as hot as any big man at the moment. Knyba, meanwhile, suffers the first loss of his career after jumping out to a nice run by winning his first seventeen fights.
