Bayern Munich were rattled by Union Berlin. This was the perfect opponent to punish the Bavarians who have been on a long streak of games with minimal rest. With the UCL game against PSG being as punishing
due to a man disadvantage for half of the game, this game almost turned into a nightmare. However, the squad pulled up their socks and found a way to avoid defeat in the final moments of the game.
Scorer of the important equaliser, Harry Kane gave a measured perspective on the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The way we came back shows the spirit and determination of this team. It would’ve been worse to go into the international break with a defeat. We can keep the momentum going with this draw. 16 wins in a row is incredible. But now that it’s over, it won’t be the main talking point anymore. We move on” said Kane as the team finally had to let go of the growing weight of the win streak.
Yes it was a defeat with some avoidable errors. However, we cannot undermine how difficult the last two fixtures have been for Bayern. Fatigue is taking its toll on the players. Michael Olise for example is not as lively as we know him to be and that has led to an overall slow down of the right wing. Perhaps the international break can offer the players some much needed rest before cracking on to their next fixtures.
Bayern Munich hit the road in the ultimate “trap game” situation after big wins over Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga) and Paris Saint-Germain (Champions League) just before an international break.
For any team, that could have spelled danger — and this Bayern Munich squad was not immune.
