If the Yankees fall just short in their quest to rally in the AL East, they may just look back at this series in San Diego as where they missed their opportunity. They had the lead in extras on Friday, having managed to damage Mason Miller, but lost in devastating fashion. They rebounded strongly on Saturday, and had a chance to win the series with Gerrit Cole on the mound, but lost by one run, Cole giving up four solo home runs. Fortunately, the Rays lost to the Rangers to keep the division deficit
at five, but two one-run losses this weekend could prove extremely costly.
The Bombers travel back to New York today, where maybe, just maybe, they’ll welcome Aaron Judge back to the lineup.
