Edgar Berlanga washed his hands of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing after a “disrespectful” booking against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz last year in Orlando. To be fair, Hearn also got Berlanga three consecutive main events, including a 2024 showdown against Canelo Alvarez that made “The Chosen One” filthy rich in defeat.
But like they say, what have you done for me lately?
The former WBO NABO Super Middleweight champion will take his talents to Zuffa Boxing after signing with Dana White and Co. earlier
this week. Joining him is undefeated IBF junior welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins, who was last seen stopping George Kambosos Jr. last summer in New York City.
Debut dates have yet to be determined.
“Zuffa Boxing is changing the game,” Berlanga said in today’s release. “I’m here for the biggest fights on boxing’s best platform, here to put the super middleweight division on notice.”
Berlanga is coming off a knockout loss to Hamzah Sheeraz last July.
“This is a major step forward in my career,” Hitchins added. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and with Zuffa Boxing in my corner, I’m going to show the world that I am a pound-for-pound, generational fighter.”
