There are a lot of uncertainties still, but Maliq Brown was taken with the #44 pick by the San Antonio Spurs, and that could be a huge break.
First, the Spurs have been a model franchise in most ways, and they have always had a knack for finding talent.
Second, he has a pretty clearly defined role from Day One: defend. And that will be much easier with Victor Wembanyana, aka the Alien, and now Jayden Quaintance, as soon as his knee allows. Also, the Spurs picked up UConn’s Tarris Reed, so Brown should
be free to focus first on defense.
It’s a great opportunity for him, and our bet is that the Spurs will be very happy once they get a sense of just how smart a defender he is. It’s one thing to see it on TV, and another entirely to see it in practice and games.
