sure, you saw him thread, the needle time and time again against the Alabama defense on Saturday night. You’ve seen him take off running, take a brutal shot from an opposing defender, and get up grinning. But there’s a numerical tell that Gunner Stockton may in fact be a 1-of-1 quarterback in Bulldog history.
To be sure we’ve been lucky to have some of the most talented signal callers in the game come through Athens. We’ve also had our share of gritty gamers who seemed to will their teams to victory.
Stockton more and more presents as an amalgamation of the two. But a couple of stats show just how unbelievable he has been in his season and a half as a starter.
Carson Beck is the career completion percentage leader among starting quarterbacks at Georgia, completing 72.4% of passes across his time in the Classic City. Gunner is currently at 71.0%, but is hitting 76.6 percent of his passes in 2026. Say what you may about the Mike Bobo screen ‘‘em if you got ‘‘em offense. But that number, if it stays where it is, would give Gunner the highest passing percentage for a starting career and for a season in Bulldog history. While he’s a bit different passer than guys like Matt Stafford and Jake Fromm and David Greene, that’s still a heck of an achievement.
Another stellar achievement? Not turning the ball over. Gunner has thrown 14 touchdowns against 2 interceptions in 2026. For his Bulldog career he’s thrown 41 scoring passes and tossed 9 interceptions. That’s a ratio of 4.56 touchdowns for every turnover.
How good is that? There may soon be no one for him to compete with. No, seriously. The closest Bulldog signal callers in TD/INT ratio are Stetson Bennett (3.14 touchdowns per interception) and Jake Fromm (4.33). Unless he suddenly becomes an interception machine, Stockton will likely pull away from Fromm in that category as the year goes along.
In short, Gunner Stockton is playing the quarterback position as efficiently as anyone ever has while wearing a red block “G” helmet. That’s something to savor while we still have him around to so so. Until later…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
