Per a release on Borussia Dortmund’s club website, veteran defender Emre Can suffered a torn ACL in the squad’s 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday:
Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Emre Can for an extended period. The BVB captain suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Bundesliga match against FC Bayern Munich and will be sidelined for several months.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “Emre’s injury is extremely bitter. Not just for him, but for all of us.
He is our captain, always puts the team first and is an important part of our club. Emre will receive all our support in the coming months so that he can make a full recovery.”
Can initially stayed in the game after the initial incident, but was forced to leave the match later. The 32-year-old’s season is over and his future with the club is in doubt. Can’s contract runs through he end of this season.
