The Detroit Lions (3-2) and Green Bay Packers (4-2) will square off in a division rivalry game in Week 7, and both teams were back on the practice field on Thursday. On the second day this week, the Lions practiced all 51 players on their active roster, as well as the two players expected to return from injury. After a walkthrough on Wednesday, the Packers finally got one of their key offensive starters on the field for the first time this season.
Let’s take a look at Thursday’s injury report and
get you up to date with what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent injury report will be bolded.
No practice
- None
All eligible Lions players were able to practice on Thursday.
Limited practice
- CB Rock Ya-Sin (Hamstring)
Ya-Sin is still working his way back from injury, but getting a second practice in this week is an encouraging sign he is indeed headed in the right direction. While he is not currently in the mix for a starting outside cornerback role, he is a heavy contributor on special teams and can act as veteran depth in the secondary.
Full practice
- C Cade Mays (Wrist) — Expected to be removed from IR this week
- S Brian Branch (Achilles) — Expected to be removed from PUP this week
Both Mays and Branch are expected to be activated from their injured lists in the next few days and step into the Lions’ starting lineup at their respective positions.
On Tuesday, Lions coach Dan Campbell was a bit hesitant to say Mays would start at center, but by Wednesday, he said he felt Mays was ready, and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing confirmed the decision on Thursday.
“He plays at a high level. He’s big, he’s physical, he’s really smart,” Petzing said of Mays. “The communication piece is a huge part of playing that position. So, that’s just kind of a number of things off the top of my head, but excited to see him back out there.”
Campbell was also hesitant to say that Branch was ready to play a full complement of defensive snaps this weekend, but defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard echoed a similar sentiment on Thursday.
“Yeah, we haven’t given a rep count or anything like that,” Sheppard said of Branch. “It’s going to be more of a feel thing as the game goes and we’ll pick and choose what’s right and what’s not.”
Packers’ Thursday injury report
The big story surrounding the Packers right now is starting running back Josh Jacobs returning from the Commissioner’s exempt list and taking the practice field for the first time this season.
Because the Packers held a walkthrough on Wednesday, Thursday marked the first time since training camp that Jacobs has been able to practice with teammates. While he will get at most two on-field practices this week, both the Lions and the national media expect him to suit up and start against the Lions on Sunday afternoon.
“We’ve been getting him ramped up,” Packers Matt LaFleur said on Wednesday. “He’s been in the building. We’ve been doing things with him, in terms of our strength staff, our athletic training staff. You can’t simulate football until you get out there. These next two days are going to be great work for him as we ramp him up.”
As for the Packers’ official Thursday injury report, that should be released soon, and we will update this article once that happens.
