Ben Whittaker has some profile over in the U.K. as having future star potential for his flashy and flamboyant style inside the ring. In certain respects he has a bit of a Prince Naseem quality even if
not held in quite the same regard, but he’s certainly got enough that has had major British promoters looking to add him to their roster.
After spending time under Boxxer, Whittaker recently left that promotional outfit led by Ben Shalom to join Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, and tells ESPN that he feels he’s now better suited to remain active and develop his career.
“Activity’s key, elsewhere I couldn’t really do a lot of fights. It’s get active. I’m still 28. When you get into that later part of your career, world titles or contending for a world title, your career will slow down. This year I’m getting one fight, you’re not going to learn like that. They’ve put down a plan where I can do three, four fights a year, and that’s what I needed.”
The 28-year-old last fought in April where he scored a second round stoppage over Liam Cameron and is currently scheduled to face Benjamin Gavazi on Nov. 29 in Birmingham, England. He anticipates a much more active 2026.
