Women’s Hockey (24-4)
Penn State clinched its fourth straight AHA regular season title with back-to-back shutout wins over Delaware. Katie DeSa recorded her 21st career shutout to set a program record. Coach Jeff Kampersal
reached 500 wins as an NCAA head coach with the 5-0 win in Game 1.
Grace Outwater, Maddy Christian, Danica Maynard, and Mikah Keller all had two-point nights in Game 1. Penn State held Delaware to just 12 shots in a 7-0 win in Game 2. Kendall Butze had a goal and three assists, and Tessa Janecke had two goals in the Game 2 win.
Penn State remains at No. 4 in the NPI, and the Lions are likely to remain there as long as they keep winning. The Lions will face Robert Morris today at 1pm at Beaver Stadium and tomorrow at 6pm at Pegula Ice Arena. Admission is free for today’s game at Beaver Stadium.
Men’s Volleyball (4-2)
The men’s volleyball team got swept by McKendree over the weekend in 3-0 and 3-1 losses. It was a sluggish weekend for the offense. Sean Harvey had 11 kills in the first match, but PSU hit just .244 as a team. In the second match, the teams split the first two sets before McKendree pulled away in sets three and four. Sean Harvey had 12 kills, and Miller Trubey added 11 more, but otherwise it was another struggle for the offense.
Penn State will host Hawaii tonight (6pm on Big Ten Plus) and Saturday (5pm on Big Ten Plus).
Women’s Basketball (7-15)
The futility for the basketball programs continued with an 89-59 loss to Oregon and an 87-66 loss to Minnesota.
Kiyomi McMiller and Nyla McFadden each scored 15 points against Oregon, but the defense could not stop anything the Ducks did, and the Lady Lions shot a paltry 39% from the floor. Against Minnesota, Penn State trailed by just four at halftime, but Minnesota outscored the Lions 45-28 in the second half to pull away. Kiyomi McMiller (23 points), Moriah Murray (16), and Tea Clante (11) all reached double figures for Penn State in the loss.
Penn State will take on Purdue on the road on Wednesday (7pm on Big Ten Plus).
