When Liverpool standout midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai carried on following a nasty looking knock to his ankle against Brighton over the weekend, the initial assumption was that of course he player would
be in line to start again the following week when the Reds headed to London to take on Tottenham.
However, a series of post-match comments from manager Arne Slot and rumours of scans being needed cast at least a little bit of doubt on those assumptions. Now, though, there are reports that the player has responded well to rest and recovery and hopes are high that he will be fully fit and ready to go on Saturday.
Whether or not that means another start for Liverpool’s midfield workhorse is less clear, and in an ideal world Slot might be able to give the Hungary captain some rest, but with other fitness issues and Mohamed Salah now off at the Africa Cup of Nations the managers options are becoming increasingly limited.
Meanwhile, the news is slightly less positive but still better than expected on the Joe Gomez front. Gomez had to come off after just 26 minutes on the weekend with a muscle issue and while scans of that injury have revealed no significant damage, the club are erring on the side of caution and will rest him this week.
