The Detroit Lions’ first big litmus test of the season is a big one. The Lions must face a dangerous Buffalo Bills team, with just about every disadvantage possible. The Bills are at home, in primetime, and debuting their new home stadium for the first time in the NFL regular season. Bills fans are crazy. Bills fans christening a new stadium in primetime? I don’t even know what to expect.
On top of that, the Lions will be a little extra shorthanded on the short week. Rookie right tackle Blake Miller
and starting left guard Christian Mahogany are both out, although Detroit did well to fortify their depth at both positions. You could do a lot worse than Larry Borom and Ben Bartch filling those holes, respectively.
But even beyond that, the Bills and Josh Allen present one of the toughest challenges for any NFL defense, let alone a Lions defense that just let young Saints quarterback Tyler Shough throw for over 400 yards. Just look what Allen and company did to a strong Houston Texans defense last week on the road.
The Lions have plenty of firepower on their own, though, and we could be in for a big shootout.
