The CTA (the Technical Committee of Referees) has reviewed El Clasico and shared their verdict on some of the decisions from Sunday’s big game.
Jose Mourinho claimed Joao Cancelo should have seen been sent off during the match for a challenge on Yan Diomande which he described as being a “clear red card.”
Yet the has CTA disagreed and says that Cancelo should only have been booked, per Marca.
“He dribbles the ball and initiates an attacking move. Cancelo makes partial contact with Diomande’s leg. There
is no excessive force or brutality. It was a reckless challenge; the referee should have shown a yellow card.”
And what of Aurelien Tchouameni’s foul on Xavi Espart, we hear you ask?
Espart has been ruled out for seven weeks after sustaining an injury after Tchouameni took him out but the CTA made no mention of that action at all.
The only other play mentioned as a Real Madrid claim for a penalty for handball by Alejandro Balde. The appeal was waved away by the match official and the CTA agreed it was the right decision.
“Balde and Mbappé fight each other in the dispute for the ball, the ball hits the defender’s arm fortuitously, the arm is in a natural position due to the dynamics of the action,” is the verdict.
