Vincent Kompany’s work at Bayern Munich is leaving a clear impression on opposing sidelines. Club Brugge veteran Hans Vanaken shared his impressions of the Bavarian powerhouse after facing them in the Champions League this season.
That was an October match which Bayern won 4-0 with goals from Lennart Karl, Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and Nicolas Jackson. Like so many Bayern games from the Hinrunde, it looked like smooth sailing nearly from start to finish. And that’s exactly how it felt on the Brugge sidelines.
“We felt powerless, the danger was coming from everywhere,” Vanaken shared for Sporza (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Vincent Kompany is approaching things the right way. He’s making Bayern play like Anderlecht did in his early days, and that’s also the way I like to see football.
“The fact that there’s no unrest in their dressing room despite the presence of so many stars speaks volumes.”
Well, no lies detected. It is good to see Kompany’s work catching the eye of players on other teams. As long as the Belgian is in charge at Säbener Straße, Munich should be an enviable destination.
As for Manaken, the 33-year-old has been a prolific scorer in 400 appearances and counting for Brugge. He and Kompany — then player-manager at Anderlecht — shared the stage at an award ceremony in January of 2020, where Kompany presented Manaken with his second straight Belgian Golden Shoe award.
