Less than a month after his second knockout loss at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois has parted ways with his trainer, Don Charles. Dubois was stopped in five rounds of his rematch with Usyk in a bid to go undisputed at heavyweight, but it would be Usyk who would once again snag all of the major titles while sending Dubois into the sunken place.
“I’d like to thank Don Charles for the hard work and effort he’s put into me for the last 18 months,” Dubois said in a video posted to social media.
“But now I feel like I need a fresh change and a new start for this next phase of my career, where I look to become two-time heavyweight champion of the world.”
Dubois had been working with Charles since he was preparing for his first fight against Usyk back in 2023, but with Dubois unable to get the job done he’s going to make some changes, with it also being reported that co-trainer Kieran Farrell is also no longer part of Dubois’ team.
Needless to say, Dubois’ team is undergoing a major overhaul at the moment and early rumors are that he could enlist Tony Sims to take the lead trainer position, although that has yet to be confirmed. The 27-year-old Dubois still has some time to go back to the drawing board and regroup, but he’ll need to now work his way back up to the mountaintop following a new Sherpa.
