Back last week, Ben Steele from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had information from the athletic department as to which teams Marquette men’s basketball will be playing preseason scrimmages against before the start of the 2025-26 season. The first of the two scrimmages, both of which will be behind closed doors even though the NCAA says that they don’t have to be any more, will be in Milwaukee on Thursday, October 9th against Missouri. After that, Marquette will head out to the Rocky Mountains to face
Colorado on Thursday, October 16. Steele noted that this is the fourth straight year that the Golden Eagles will face the Tigers in a preseason scrimmage.
Missouri went 22-12 last year and made the NCAA tournament as a #6 seed. That’s right about what they were in head coach Dennis Gates’ first season, when they went 25-10 and earned a #7 seed. It’s also a heck of a lot better than his second year, when the Tigers went 0-18 in SEC play. BartTorvik.com currently has Missouri at #29 in the computer’s preseason rankings for this coming season.
Colorado went 14-21 last year with a 3-17 record in their first year as a member of the Big 12. That’s quite the drop off from when they were 26-11 and earned a #10 seed in the NCAA tournament in 2024. You may remember that team, as they faced Marquette in the round of 32. Tad Boyle is still the head coach of the Buffaloes, heading into his 16th season in Boulder. BartTorvik.com isn’t projecting a great season for Colorado, as they are sitting at #100 in the preseason rankings.
Marquette’s season starts for real on Monday, November 3rd, when the Golden Eagles host Albany at Fiserv Forum. We don’t have a tipoff time or television assignment for that right now, but that information should come along with the Big East schedule fairly soon.
