ALABAMA 9, FLORIDA 1 (5 Innings)
It was a shaky start for Bama starter Vic Moten as she walked the first two batters. [To be honest, the ball/strike calls were a bit questionable.] However, she came back to strike out the next three Gators swinging.
UF coach Tim Walton made an unusual choice of starting Leah Stevens who had mostly been used out of the bullpen and not in big moments too often. Alabama loaded the bases against the Gator but three Tide players struck out to end the threat. But that good fortune would not last.
In the
top of the 2nd inning, Moten repeated her performance from the first frame by walking the first two batters. But again, she got out of the jam.
To lead off the bottom of that inning, Ambrey Taylor smoked a ball off the scoreboard to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Later in that same inning, a hit by pitch and a pair of walks was followed by a one RBI single by Ana Roman and a two RBI single by Marile Giles.
Florida scratched one run on the 3rd, but stranded a pair of runners. In the bottom of the frame, Kristen White had a two out single and was doubled in by Jena Young. After a Brooke Wells walk, Alexis Pupillo singled to make it 6-1.
In the bottom of the 5th, Alabama closed it out for a run rule victory. Young singled and Pupillo doubled her in. Roman walked and Audrey Vandagriff doubled her in. Taylor picked up another RBI when she walked it off with an RBI single.
[Love that enthusiasm from Beth Mowins…] 🙄
Moten went the distance, giving up three hits and one run. One insane stat in that she had seven walks but the strike zone was a bit facocta.
NOTES:
- Florida was scared of Wells. So much so that they walked her three times. But that is not a great strategy when a team has someone like Pupillo hitting behind her. She was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
- Both Young and Taylor had 3 hits in 4 at bats.
- Y’all. This Alabama team is dangerous.
- Kenleigh Cahalan had a single, a foul out, and a strikeout with no runs and no RBI. Haha.
SEC TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Auburn’s loss to Florida eliminated them from NCAA Tournament eligibility. The Tigers finish the year with a losing record (27-28) for the first time since 2007 and miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013.
- Game 12 | ALABAMA 9 Florida 1 (5 Inn.)
- Game 13 | Texas 5 Georgia 4
Texas led 3-0 and then trailed 4-3 entering the 6th. They would tie it up in that inning on singles and an error. UT would then win it in the bottom of the 7th on three singles. Teagan Kavan gave up all four runs for the Longhorns over 4.2 innings. Citlaly Gutierrez pitched the rest of the way without allowing a run.
SCHEDULE
- For all the SEC marbles, it’s #2 Alabama vs #4 Texas – Saturday at 4pm/5pm
HOW TO WATCH… ALLEGEDLY
ESPN. Weather delays are not likely.
TEN CENT ANALYSIS
Am I jinxing it by saying this Crimson Tide team is looking damn good? They have looked like world beaters the last two game and should have the SEC Pitcher of the Year in the circle on Saturday. My money is on Alabama.
