Jalen Hurts Shares Origin of DeVonta Smith’s ‘Dagger’ Super Bowl Touchdown: Roll Call – SI “I go to coach [Nick] Sirianni on the Thursday practice [before the Super Bowl] and I pretty much give him this list,” Hurts said on NFL Network’s America’s Game. “And I’m like, ‘Hey, just letting you know, you call these, something good is going to happen.’ The dagger was on that” […] “I go into the coaches’ office at halftime [up 24-0 in the Super Bowl] and I get
an opportunity to talk with him one-on-one, coach Sirianni. And I said, ‘Hey, don’t forget about, you know, the dagger. Don’t forget about it.” Sirianni explained that this was drawn up for hours, yet it was a 5-second play. He mentioned it was “cool just to think about all of the preparation that went into getting that call at the right time.”
What will Saquon Barkley do for an Eagles encore? – ESPN
Young guys, veterans, stoic team leaders? They’re all fair game for Barkley’s charm offensive. Rookies Jihaad Campbell and Kyle McCord both separately recall Barkley making his way to their cafeteria table on the first or second day of OTAs to have them come sit with him and the veterans. Offensive lineman Darian Kinnard spent last season and the bulk of this preseason in Philadelphia before he was traded to Green Bay, and says he watched Barkley practically demand a relationship with Hurts — making the effort sound a little like Barkley wormed his way into Hurts’ heart and refuses to vacate the premises. “Sometimes J gets in his own head,” Kinnard says. “And I feel like just having Saquon there as this unfiltered guy just helped him open up. People now see more of Jalen than they used to.”
10 Eagles predictions heading into the 2025 NFL season – PhillyVoice
1) Jalen Hurts will continue to get better, and also understand his role “Our job as a football team, as players, and as coaches, is to win every game,” Nick Sirianni said on Tuesday. “I’ve talked about this with Jalen. Jalen, I love how selfless he is. He’s been so efficient as a quarterback, taking care of the football, efficiently going where the right place is with the football. Then there’s judgment on the outside of, ‘Well, he didn’t throw for this many yards or didn’t throw for this many touchdowns.’ I don’t care. He was efficient with the football, and he did everything he needed to do for us to win the game. That doesn’t just apply with your star football player in Jalen Hurts. That also applies for the rest of the team.” After the bye last season, and including the playoffs, Hurts accounted for 36 total TDs and 2 INTs. It’s pretty hard to be more efficient than that. Hurts’ job first and foremost will be ball security, and he understands that. He’ll have fewer than 10 turnovers in 2025.

The Eagles’ star running back had a historical season in 2024, won the Super Bowl trophy, and has stayed very busy ever since. Saquon Barkley had cameras following his journey going all the way back to his negotiating frustrations with the Giants, culminating in a performance that earned him Offensive Player of the Year, the No. 1 ranking among the Top 100 players, and the cover of Madden. With a producing credits that include Martin Scorcese, ‘Saquon’ the documentary will debut on Oct. 9
Cowboys And Eagles Week Is Here | NFC East Mixtape Vol. 166 – BGN YouTube
The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are set to meet on Thursday night in the first game of the 2025 season. With Dallas having just made one of the biggest trades in recent NFL history… it has only added to the batch of narratives surrounding this game. In order to properly prepare we did what we do best… we fired up the NFC East Mixtape with RJ Ochoa and Brandon Lee Gowton.
Dallas Cowboys scouting report: Breaking down the Eagles defensive scheme – Blogging The Boys
That’s where the Cowboys offer a unique first test. Prescott got hurt before he could face Fangio last year, and there’s a new play-caller in head coach Brian Schottenheimer. His offensive coordinator, Klayton Adams, helped upset the Eagles two years ago as the Cardinals’ offensive line coach, where he coached under another Fangio disciple in Jonathan Gannon. The Cowboys also added George Pickens, whose vertical threat is perfect for testing this kind of defense. Simply put, nobody knows what this Cowboys offense will look like. Prescott has always been a productive quarterback, and his connection with CeeDee Lamb is well established by now. With Pickens, Schottenheimer, and other new factors, it’ll be hard for Fangio to know exactly how to attack in Week 1. The stage is set for a fascinating chess match between Schottenheimer and Fangio. The outside world may be expecting a defensive beatdown from the Eagles, but don’t be surprised if the Cowboys come out with some answers for Fangio’s limited but deadly pitching repertoire.
Game Preview – DAL at PHI – Iggles Blitz
I’m guessing the Eagles will come out and run the football, hoping to get Saquon Barkley loose and to test the Dallas run defense. That will give the OL a chance to get into a rhythm. Landon Dickerson practiced on Tuesday and should be good to go. If the Eagles can be bullies and take control of the game, that is the way to go. The Dallas defense is built more on speed than size. Pound on those guys. Jalen Hurts got off to a slow start last year. He finished hot, as you may remember. I’m curious to see if he can build off that and play well all year long. He will have a new play-caller in Kevin Patullo. They’ve been together long enough that I’m not expecting any issues.
Roob’s Observations: Understanding what really makes Nick Sirianni a great coach – NBCSP
It’s interesting how the way we look at key guys on the Eagles’ defense is defined by what they did in the postseason. Nolan Smith had 6 ½ sacks during the regular season but 4.0 in the playoffs. Jalyx Hunt had 1 ½ sacks and three quarterback hits all year and 1 ½ sacks and three QB hits in the postseason. Neither Quinyon Mitchell or Cooper DeJean had an interception during the regular season but they picked up three in the playoffs, including one of the biggest in franchise history. Jordan Davis had one sack and one QB hit during the regular season but contributed two sacks and two QB hits in the postseason. Moro Ojomo didn’t have a sack or tackle for loss in the regular season but had a sack and two TfL in the playoffs. It says a lot about players when they’re able to raise their level in the postseason, and all those guys did exactly that, producing when the lights shined the brightest. Does it mean they’ll pick up right where they left off in February? Actually, I believe it will. I think what we saw from Smith, Hunt, Mitchell, DeJean and Davis in the postseason is who they really are as players. Everything came together for all those guys – figuring out the defense, staying healthy, understanding their roles – and they all had huge roles in the Super Bowl run. And that was all in Year 1 under a new coach. And Year 1 in the NFL for Mitchell, DeJean and Hunt and Year 2 for Smith and Ojomo. I expect all those guys to build on what they did in the postseason and play at that level this entire season. It’s going to be fun to watch.
NFL Week 1 Preview: Schedule, storylines, matchups to watch and betting spreads – PFF
Matchup to Watch: Eagles RB Saquon Barkley vs. Cowboys’ Run Defense. There’s no mystery about what the Eagles want to do offensively: run the rock. Powered by Saquon Barkley and two of the NFL’s top 12 run blockers, Jordan Mailata (94.6) and Lane Johnson (85.4), Philadelphia posted the highest EPA per rush in the NFL last season. The Eagles will aim to do it again this season. That spells trouble for a Cowboys defense that allowed the highest EPA per rush in the league last season and looks largely unchanged in 2025
25 Questions That Could Shape the 2025 NFL Season – The Ringer
Passing was not a problem in the team’s final two games, obviously. And it wasn’t just that Hurts played better football: He also played more aggressively. In the wins over Washington and Kansas City, he finished with seven big-time throws, matching his entire second-half total from the regular season. He didn’t just throw with more conviction; he seemed to be running with more confidence and speed, too. He looked more like the Hurts we saw during his breakout campaign in 2022, when he cemented his status as Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback. If the Eagles are going to repeat as champions and avoid the Super Bowl hangover they suffered in 2023, they’ll need the championship version of Hurts to show up all season. It’s not a given that the defense will finish near the top of the league once again—as defensive performance is generally volatile from season to season—or that all the key components of the run game will stay healthy. So Hurts could be asked to do more to get Philadelphia back to the championship rounds of the playoffs.
Super Bowl LX predictions: Ravens, Chiefs among 8 favorites to win Lombardi Trophy – NFL.com
Jack Andrade: Eagles over Broncos. The Eagles feel like the 2014 Seahawks — a potential dynasty built on a dominant run game and a nasty young defense. This time, there’s no Tom Brady (or Malcolm Butler) to deny the Super Bowl repeat, though the Broncos will make a leap behind their own elite defense and one of the league’s best head coach-QB partnerships.

Eagles can get to .500 all-time in regular season — for first time since 1933 – PFT
The year was 1933. The team mascot was Dick Levy, who is the kid in the photo next to Red Grange of the Chicago Bears. It’s the last time the Eagles had an all-time record of .500 record in the regular season, at 3-3-1. Two losses to end the season dropped them to 3-5-1. They have not yet reached .500 in their all-time regular season record since then. With a win on Thursday night, the Eagles will finally get back there.
NBC will roll out some new features during tonight’s Eagles-Cowboys game – Inquirer
“Our telestration presentation will be notably different,” Sunday Night Football coordinating producer Rob Hyland said on a recent episode of the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch podcast. One feature debuting involves the ability of a telestrator controlled by the production team to remove players during a replay, potentially offering a clearer view of a specific action or moment during a play. NBC will also be able to telegraph the path of a player before the snap using its chip data. NBC also designed an entirely new score bug, but fans won’t get their first glimpse of it tonight. “That will not be revealed until the playoffs begin,” Hyland said. “It will be part of our Super Bowl presentation.”
One new thought about each player on the Washington Commanders 2025 roster – Hogs Haven
2025: I anticipate no real regression in Zach Ertz’s play, though I think Deebo may ‘vulture’ a lot of the checkdown passes that went to Zach in 2024, and I expect Deebo, with his run-after-catch ability to do more with those touches than Ertz did. Ertz had 66 catches for 654 yards and 7 TDs in 2024. I expect that to drop to around 500 yards on 45-50 catches and around 6 TDs because JD5 will go to Ertz in the red zone earlier and more often than he did in 2024.
Deonte Banks ripped by anonymous Giants staffer – Big Blue View
The New York Giants are usually guarded in their public remarks about players, especially when it comes to criticism. That is why it was shocking to read a comment from a “Giants staffer”shredding third-year cornerback Deonte Banks. “Does the player even feel responsible for people losing their jobs?” the Giants staffer asked. “A lot of people got burned by him. The kid really needs to grow up.” Veteran defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, who admitted last year that he went to bat for Banks before the Giants traded up to select him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and then broke ranks by being publicly critical of the player, was fired at season’s end.
Like it or not, the NFL is still a passing league – SB Nation
Despite many wanting to believe that the NFL is going back to being a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust league, it is not. The NFL is a passing league. And even though basic box score passing numbers have been down over the last two seasons compared to the boom of the 2010s, you can’t have a successful run game without also having a successful pass game and a good quarterback.
