Newcastle United expect to make selective sales across the next two windows, with The Athletic’s Chris Waugh reporting that Joe Willock is the likeliest departure as the club reshapes their midfield.
Waugh
wrote that Newcastle “are keen to avoid becoming seen as a ‘selling club’,” but accept that a notable outgoing cannot be dismissed given PSR realities and the need to refresh key areas of the squad.
Willock, whose contract runs to 2027, has not featured prominently this season under Eddie Howe’s system, and Waugh notes that at least one midfielder is being pursued for 2026.
Jacob Ramsey is described in Waugh’s report as a “natural successor as a dynamic ball-carrier,” which will only place more pressure on Willock’s position.
Other potential exits are also outlined. Waugh says striker Will Osula “still appears destined to leave in 2026,” though a January sale would only occur if Newcastle manage to secure a young forward first — something described as “far from certain.”
At centre-back, the club remains hopeful of completing a new deal with Sven Botman for a contract extension before it’s too late. However, Waugh makes clear that “if a new contract cannot be negotiated… then the Dutchman may be sold, rather than be allowed to enter his final 12 months.”
Emil Krafth is another expected departure. The 31-year-old is in the last year of his contract and is described as “likely to depart, possibly as soon as January,” with FC Copenhagen showing interest.
