This Wednesday, the Boston College
Eagles Men’s Basketball Team host the Harvard Crimson at the Conte Forum.
The Eagles come into this game following two straight losses to Davidson and Tulane, putting their record at 3-4. In those two losses they are struggling from the field, shooting only 40%, which matches their overall season percentage. It’s been a rocky start for BC this season, with highs and lows through the first seven games, and they are looking to capitalize on an easier opponent once their conference games start in January.
Harvard enters the game at 4-3 overall. They shoot the basketball at a very efficient rate – 48.5% from the field and 39% from three while scoring nearly 73 points per game. Their top scorers come from their backcourt in Chandler Pigge and Robert Hinton, the both averaging nearly 15 points per game. However, they lack a true inside presence and struggle to pull down boards – they’ve averaged mere 30.9 rebounds per night through their first seven contests. Still, even without a commanding presence the Crimson score at ease and generate a lot of pressure with their on ball defense – their three starting guards each grab close to two steals a night.
The Eagles came out victorious in the last outing between the two teams, winning 73-64 in November 2023. It’s an intense rivalry between the two Massachusetts schools. For BC, a win against Harvard will definitely generate confidence, even if Harvard tends to be one of their easier outings. Defensively they’ll have their hands full with slowing down Pigge and Hinton, but we need to see more consistency on offense in this outing. If there’s an opportunity to find a steady rhythm on that end of the floor, it’s this game, since it won’t be getting easier down the road. They cannot take the Crimson lightly even if the Eagles are heavily favored – we saw how that turned out in the CCSU debacle earlier this season.
Prediction: Boston College 72, Harvard 67
