Ion Cutelaba turned in a surprising submission win earlier tonight (Sat., Mar. 14, 2026) at UFC Vegas 114 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as “Hulk” shocked light heavyweight prospect Oumar Sy with a first-round submission (guillotine choke).
Many people counted Cutelaba out entering this fight and you really can’t blame them. Not only has Sy looked dominant in all but one of his trips to the Octagon, but Cutelaba had been finished seven total times in his career heading
into Saturday. Oddsmakers and fight fans figured Sy would be able to outmuscle Cutelaba in close quarters and use his ground-and-pound to finish the fight with a knockout or submission.
Unfortunately for Sy, it was Cutelaba who leaned on his grappling to secure an early stoppage. While the two light heavyweights were scrambling in the center of the cage Cutelaba quickly locked up a tight guillotine choke and sat back on the mat. As Sy met him on the canvas Cutelaba rolled over on top and squeezed for a fairly quick tap.
It was quite impressive and a great way for “Hulk” to stop the bleeding from a recent decision loss against Modestas Bukauskas his last time out.
