The New York Giants made a move at running back coming out of their bye week, but it’s probably not the move everyone was waiting on.
The Giants have signed Eric Gray to their practice squad, per reports.
The move reunites Gray with the team that drafted him and comes as the Giants are short-handed at running back. Starter Cam Skattebo is nursing a hamstring injury, while Tyrone Tracy is on IR with his own hamstring injury.
The Giants originally selected Gray out of Oklahoma in the fifth round of the 2023
NFL Draft. The 26-year old is familiar with the Giants’ offense and blocking scheme, having been with the team throughout the off-season program and training camp. The Giants cut Gray in the final cut-down to their initial 53-man roster, after which he landed on the Cleveland Browns practice squad.
Gray has appeared in 34 career games for the Giants, serving as a depth player in their backfield as well as a kick returner. He had 21 kickoff returns in 2024, averaging 26.4 yards per return. Gray has a similar skill set as both Tracy and Gregory Desrosiers, whom the Giants signed off of the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad last week.
