Well that escalated quickly — Ryan Staub has committed to Tennessee. News broke of a visit late last night as Tennessee continued to comb through the portal for another body at quarterback, and they find one today. Staub’s visit began this morning and things came together quickly.
Staub previously had interest from LSU.
The California native is
a former 3-star prospect and spent three seasons at Colorado. Staub stands in at 6-1, 200 pounds and appeared in five games this past season. He threw for 427 yards, completing 19 of his 35 attempts. Staub tossed three touchdowns and four interceptions as Deion Sanders juggled quarterbacks for much of the season.
Though nobody expects Staub to win the job, he’ll be given a chance to compete with George MacIntrye and Faizon Brandon beginning this spring. More than that, this just rounds out Tennessee’s depth options for the fall.
Tennessee will hold out a glimmer of hope that something changes in the Joey Aguilar case, which is now set to be heard on February 10th. Assuming Aguilar isn’t able to get that extra season, Tennessee will move forward with a quarterback competition this offseason. MacIntyre, now with a full year in Josh Heupel’s system, is the obvious leader to start things out.
Staub is Tennessee’s 18th addition out of the transfer portal so far.
